The Targa Tasmania and the Cannonball run generally have classic and muscle car participants in all sorts of machines. You could probably name most of the vehicles that have participated in these events over the years.
The owners and drivers have an incredible time travelling over the course comparing notes with other crews and stopping at many different towns and cities. Of course at every stop they have terrific fun at the local pubs and taverns. It is really a very big buzz for those involved.
This site site has links to hundreds of different types of classics, and has parts and cars for sale advertised.
There are many English classics as well as Australian and North American holdens and fords.
Classic car history
The history of these cars /vehicles has evolved over time and it could seem to be that cars with a special look, purpose or make have been labelled as classics.
There are quite a number of events and geographic areas which are also referred to as “classic”, so the term is not solely attached to a vehicle.
When you read some websites or classic car articles, it seems that classic cars are supposed to be between certain years of time, and therefore anything before the starting year and after the finishing year of this proposed period are not classic.
Some people refer to some old cars as an old classic, even if it is within the veteran time period. Also there are some modern cars which will become classics in time, so it appears that there is not a real time limit, but rather an overall one.
This photo was taken locally at a car show. There are many others to show also, which are very interesting. The older cars have their distinctive classical shapes which one never seems to tire of.
Classic car rallies
Then there are the rallies where the clubs organize their members and off they go visiting other towns and seeing the sights. These rallies are not likened to speed driving and are simply getting from one place to the other at their leisure.
Once they are at their destinations they usually have organized events such as runs to local tourist spots, attending clubs for meals and trophy presentation nights. All in all people are living their lives while using these vehicles.
Classic car shows
Nearly anywhere one goes, there will be a show somewhere that you can go and take a peek at. Usually there are all types of cars on display, from original to nicely painted, and from standard to customised bodywork.
Here is a photo of a nice utility. What do you think? Is it “classic” or not, please contact us with your views.
It’s an old classic alright, even if it is outside a certain period.
Here is a back end shot for you to check out.
We will look for a better frontal photo (with the bonnet down) and rear photo of the car and will post it here later for interested enthusiasts.

We hope that these two new photos above, help you to clearly see the customised parts of this car a little better.
For those enthusiasts who are interested in the
cannonball run you will need to be free between Sunday the 9th and Friday 14th of July 2006.
Follow it along the route, be there, or compete yourself. The excitement and thrills of a classic car motoring event appeal to nearly everyone. You will need a bit of cash if you intend to compete though.
1934 Hudson Terraplane Ambulance
Here is a real classic car for you to feast your eyes on. A great big radiator grille, with a lift up bonnet on both sides.
Nicely shaped brown mudguards with running boards to boot and a creamy off white body. Information to hand is that nearly all of the back of this "Ambulance" is made of wood.
A pleasant change from the aluminium and steel which we are given in modern cars. Of course that is why this classic car has "Appeal".
Here is another photo of the Terraplane from the front on position. What a classic eh.
Hudson body work
Our friend Greg Lacy has supplied these photos which were taken while some rust and body work were being undertaken. Greg advises that the bottom of the doors and the fitting of the bonnet received particular attention.
This type of car deserves all the attention that it can get.
You can see some of Greg's work on the
holden ute page
which displays the yellow hj holden ute.
