The same applies for most all makes, but fortunately, there are some skilled car enthusiast people who take on the job of restoring a car that they like.
These classic car restorations can take months or years depending on the work involved and time available.
Bucket Seats
Original Condition of Seats

The present day condition of classic car seats and interiors in general depends on a number of different things.
The base of the front drivers seat and the outside edge of the back support reflect the use that they have had and usually are flat and worn.
On the other hand if the regular driver is a frail person then the seats reflect that also, and the steel framework may not be badly damaged, or not damaged at all.
Regular cleaning of classic car interior upholstery also extends its life span.
It does not hurt to give them a rub over with some weak watered down washing up suds, clean them off with a wet rag, dry off, and then use some good quality protective liquid or cream.
Station Wagon Bucket Seats
Generally the front bucket seats cop a lot of wear, with the driver’s seat going to pieces before the passenger side. Because of the pressing weight on the outer edge, when the driver is getting in or out, that part of the seat is usually very soft, and damaged.
More often than not, the steel outer frame of the seat base has worked it’s way up through the seating material and is showing through the top of the foam.
The centre springs on this bucket seat have worked their way through the wadding and then the vinyl. To give the seat a long life there has been some heavy duty canvas put between the springs and the foam base.
Also a small sized steel mesh can be tied to the springs with hog rings. This makes the springs work in unison and makes the seat springing feel very nice. See the next photo.
Classic car interior restoration can be trying at times, especially when the auto parts need a lot of tender loving care for
extended periods of time.
These eh holden bucket seats have a coil spring underneath both front edges. There are other springs from the bottom front of the seat facing towards the back and then looping back towards the front top edge.
Reinforcing and Repadding
The coil springs in both front corners and especially the outside corner can be stuffed tightly with wadding and then wrapped tightly with some strong material such as canvas.
This stops the spring from going flat and makes it feel like new again.
The seats can be reinforced by adding tightly wound canvas and foam. Once these buffers have been made they can be clipped to the springs with hog rings.
Together with the stuffed coils this will put a lot of feel back into the springing mechanism and the seat will not bottom out.
Here is another photo below which shows the amount of repairs which have been completed to restore these seats to as close as original as possible.

Eh bucket seats
Please feel free to
contact us
about this rebuild whenever you like.
These seats should now feel almost as new again. You possibly will not find anyone to argue about this point as who could remember clearly what a seat was like in 1964 anyhow.
As long as this eh holden interior feels nice now it is a win win situation.
We will talk about the eh holden seat foam and how and what to pack it up with on the next page.
Yours in classy classics.
Cheers,
Bob.
