HQ Holden Monaro Gts interior

HQ Holden monaro gts two door coupes are currently in restorer�s sights. There seems to be a resurgence in the restoration of many types of classic cars as well as these Monaros.

Here is the hq holden Monaro GTS in original condition. You can see the blue seats in the front and rear. This car is an original GTS Monaro.

Here�s a photo of the top of one of the bucket seats. Not a pretty sight.

You can see the bucket bases behind the old seat. Both were very sad and had to be extensively rebuilt with foam and reinforced underneath. However, after extra foam was added to the topside, and the join lines marked out they are ready to be covered.

The new cases are made to suit the marked lines and not from old patterns.

Old patterns are usually shrunk and distorted, sometimes with holes and cracks. Not a smart move. The old patterns probably would not fit anyhow after the seats have been rebuilt with new foam.

Here�s a side on view of the hq holden Monaro GTS bucket seat bases.

On the right you can see the underneath of the seat inserts. Centre lines are marked out as always.

Here are the new seat bases, with polished side brackets. Some fine steel wool, elbow grease and a couple of hours polishing brought them up like new.

Next is a side on view of the completed seats, and also a photo of the rear which shows the specially made rear panel, made from ply.

While Falcon Gt�s command very high prices the Monaro�s and Valiant Charger E38�s are now starting to bring good prices as well, especially for original unrestored items.

There are very few original unrestored HQ Monaro gts cars in good condition now and when they do come up for sale the price is very high. The only way for most people to go is to restore a car themselves.
