The Rocky Speedway event which is held at the Rockhampton Showgrounds was provided by The Rockhampton Saloon Car Club on the 24th July 2010 and was an integral part of the Motormania CQ 2010 ten day marathon.
The Rocky Speedway has been an interesting event for many years, with Saloon Car events, Sprint Cars, Solo’s and Sidecars. The thrills and spills of speedway as they used to say.
The smell of the exhaust fumes, and the blobs of mud which landed in your face as the cars and bikes spun around the track. Don’t forget the padded seats in the grandstand, did I say padded.
Many a spectator knew all about those hard grandstand seats and if you looked around you could see the smart people with a small pillow to ease the pain a little.
The crashes and smashes the flashing lights, the marshalls running all over and of course the tow truck. Not to forget the old faithful water truck, used mostly when the track is dry.
However, behind all of this are the competitors who invest many hundreds and even thousands into their cars, while working week nights to have the car ready for the weekend.
