Rocky Swap 2006
Aerial view
The day started off just a little cool at 4 am., but gradually warmed up. There was a consistent breeze for most of the day which seemed to keep the swappers moving.
Like all swaps you have to keep moving as fast as you can to cover all the sites and even then you need about three pairs of eyes to make sure you didn’t miss anything.
After seven hours I called it a day, but there were still sites which I had not checked out as keenly as I would have liked or at all. This probably describes most swappers.
Arriving before daybreak, you could see some site holders rolled up in their swags. They may have driven half the night to get there anyway. Others were already talking to people about their parts.

Here is the site ground layout for the Rockhampton Swap 2009.
You can visit me at site G10 (2009) which is ringed with biro on the green sites in the centre arena. The two photos have not joined up perfectly but you will be able to see the overall swap meet outline anyhow.
If you would like to say gday and I am away looking at parts etc you can leave your first name and mobile. I will then call you when I am back on site. Happy swapping, Bob.

A Swap meet Video in the US
One of the first items of interest was a little A Model Ford ute (pickup).
It had Victorian number plates and looked like it was driven regularly.
Here’s the A Model pickup and an XY Falcon photographed later on. Sorry about the A Model photo as it was taken before daybreak.
The crowd gradually thickened and by 7am you had to start dodging people.
As far as I could find out there were close to 15000 people through the gates. I have not got a figure on how many went over the fence.
Crowds
The two photos below were taken from the grandstand to get a better overall view of parts of the showground rocky swap event. You can get a bit of an idea of it’s size and crowd density.
These two Rockhampton swap meet photos are almost a side by side shot and at a guess they depict about a quarter of the overall area.
Here’s a photo across the centre of the inner ring from the grandstand and one from the ground through the middle of the inner ring. Will obtain a photo of the lower area in 2007.
Rocky swap sites
Here we can see a Watts Bros (Carpet one) sign and Benaraby drag racing further along. Have not got any details of the car on the trailer.
It was a good day and am looking forward to 2007.
